Bus from Sofia to 7 Rila Lakes

7 Rila Lakes are a spectacular Bulgarian wonder. This is a group of 7 lakes and they are situated in the highest mountain in Bulgaria – Rila. They are just a few hours away from Sofia but if you don’t have a car, it’s hard to get there.

There is a daily shuttle bus from Sofia to 7 Rila Lakes that leaves you at the base station (parking near Pionerska hut). Then you can take the lift to a certain point and skip some of the hiking or hike all the way to the lakes. 

It is basically a shuttle that picks you up from your hotel and leaves at around 7:30 am. It arrives at the base station of the Rila Lakes chair lift at around 9:15 and then you can take the lift or start your hike. The bus leaves the 7 Rila Lakes at 17:00 and arrives in Sofia at around 19:00.

    Just had a quick question regarding the 7 Rila Lakes.. I’ve been reading quite a lot about them, but the only thing that hasn’t been so clear is the difficulty of this trek. It would be nice to know what to expect regarding steepness of the paths, their quality (whether they’re very rocky, grassy or smooth), whether there are any signs to lead the way?
    Also, are the chairlifts available during the summer months or are they available but limited to certain days of the week?
