Shopska salad is probably the most recognizable dish in Bulgaria. What makes it unique is not some unknown spice or secret flavouring but the fresh products and the simplicity of the salad. Actually there is one specific ingridient that makes the salad so tasty that once you try it you’ll never forget it – this is the delicious Bulgarian white cheese.
Shopska salad is not only popular in Bulgaria but it’s also a European’s favourite. Back in May 2014 the salad won the contest for the best dish in Europe, organized by the European Parliament’s facebook page receiving more than 20 000 votes! To give you a better idea of its grace, the dish on the second place took only around 6000 votes.
Enough talking! Let me tell you how to make it.

1 large chopped cucumber
1 large yellow onion, chopped, or 6 green onions, sliced

1/2 cup Bulgarian white cheese “Sirene”
Some salt
