Romantic Getaway Ideas for Outdoorsy Couples

If you’d like to spend some time in the open air with the special person in your life, then it makes sense to book a particular sort of getaway: one that emphasises the outdoors.

But exactly what sort of holiday might appeal to a couple with a preference for spending time outdoors? Let’s take a look at a few options.

Lodge Holidays

A holiday lodge represents an excellent compromise. You’ll be closer to nature, but you won’t have to sacrifice comfort in the same way as you would in a tent or caravan. You can find lodges for sale or for rent just about everywhere in the country.

Choose a location that reflects your interests. A Cornish lodge might appeal to those looking for a seaside break, and water-based activities. If you’d like to go hiking up a mountain, on the other hand, a lodge in the Scottish Highlands, or in Snowdonia, might appeal.

Mountain Retreats

Speaking of the mountains, it’s worth dwelling on a few of the activities that are at their best in these parts of the world. Mountain biking provides a great chance to turn those slopes into an adrenaline-filled experience.

Hiking, on the other hand, is at its best when you’re hiking toward a summit. It may be difficult, but when you’re enjoying the incredible view, it will all feel worth it. Hiking is an activity that’s accessible to just about everyone too, and the health benefits are difficult to overstate.

If the conditions permit, a skiing holiday might also appeal. There are plenty of world-class resorts available in mainland Europe – and you might not have to spend as much as you think to enjoy them.

Activity-Based Holidays

There are other activities that might not form the basis of your holiday, but which you might indulge in anyway.

For example, a zipline through nature provides an exciting way to see the outdoors. Rock climbing, cycling and canyoneering can also all appeal in various ways, as they prove a great opportunity to build your fitness, pick up new skills, and to bond with new friends and old ones.

Beachside Adventures

One of the great things about a holiday at the beach is the sheer variety of activities on offer. Do your research, pick the beaches that best match your needs, and set out. You can even set up a tent on the beach to reduce your overall costs.

You might go surfing, paddleboarding, sailing or canoeing – or you might look at the water from above with a long cliffside walk. Having exhausted yourself, you can unwind on a beautiful stretch of sand – or at a suitable bar with a picturesque view of the sea!
