Ways to stay entertained on a holiday

Whether you’re on an adventure holiday, a city break or a trip that involves relaxing by the pool all day, the truth is that you’ll need some form of entertainment to help you get the most out of the experience.

This can be particularly important when travelling in a group and there will be inevitable downtime you can enjoy together. After all, holidays can be an opportunity to discover new things together, including hobbies and interests.

Here are some ideas you could consider for your next holiday together.

Literature

Being in the sun beside a pool or on a sun lounger makes reading a natural choice for passing the time. This is your chance to dive into a genre you enjoy, whether that’s crime, non-fiction or romance. You could even tackle something that sits outside your comfort zone.

Reading may be viewed as a solo activity, however you can enjoy it together in a group too. It can be a great way to unwind together, by burrowing into the books you’ve brought. Once you’ve spent some time reading you can discuss your books and even swap them with one another.

If you’re all avid readers and enjoy similar genres, you could even coordinate a book club environment where you read the same book together and discuss it routinely.

Online games

If you experience poor weather or you simply want to relax by playing a game together, there are plenty of online games to choose from. Ideally, you’ll want one that everyone can enjoy.

You could go for something classic like online bingo, which can be a fun and interactive option when played in a group. Alternatively, you could play quizzes or other educational games.

The great thing about online games is that you don’t have to pack anything extra, which is perfect if you have limited hand luggage.

Podcasts

Podcasts are a great option if you want something on in the background. People can tune in and out as they wish and they’re perfect for groups with varied music tastes as it will solve any arguments related to this.

There are endless podcasts to choose from these days. They can be there as a source of entertainment whether you’re on the plane, by the pool or in the hotel room getting ready. Make sure you bring a speaker so you can enjoy them as a group. Choose an educational podcast or go for something light-hearted and conversational.

Traditional games

If you have the luggage space, you could always pack some traditional games. A pack of cards is a must, as you get endless games in one. Otherwise, you could choose something like Bananagrams or a Trivia game.

Classic games can help you pass the time without feeling like you have to go out and spend money, plus they get everyone involved and can be great for bonding with everyone.
