Colourful, bold and different –that is the beautiful city of Sofia, such are the places it offers to satisfy your tummy. Sofia has a wide variety of places where you can eat. Starting with cool & cosy restaurants, going through tasty fast food corners and pastry shops and getting to the many trendy brunch places that you can read about in this article.
Here I have collected the 5 of my favourite brunch places in the capital of Bulgaria. Places offering delicious food, combined with cozy atmosphere and friendly service from smiling young Bulgarian people. And all of them centrally located in convenient and communicative locations in the city centre. See the map at the end of the article.
1. Rainbow Factory
10 Veslets street | 13 Sheinovo street | 9:00 – 20:00 | Facebook | Instagram
We start with my favourite brunch place – the cozy and tasty brunch restaurant with the colourful name Rainbow Factory. There you will find an extremely fresh and nice atmosphere, a smiling service and really fresh and quality food. The coffee and other beverages are a whole separate planet, transporting us to another dimension of taste.
The main menu includes mostly sandwiches and salads, which are traditional Bulgarian on one hand, but unexpected with plenty of combinations and flavours on the other. There are also different soups, main dishes and desserts. You can find Rainbow Factory on two different locations in Sofia – one at 10 Veslets street and the other – at 13 Sheinovo street, with opening hours between 9 am and 8 pm.
2. Mekitsa and coffee
28 Graf Ignatiev street | 09:00 – 19:00 | Facebook | Instagram
Number 2 in our list is Mekitsa and coffee – the place for traditional Bulgarian breakfast. If you do not know what actually is a Mekitsa – this is an incredibly delicious deep-fried dish made of kneaded dough and yogurt. It’s a main part of the traditional Bulgarian breakfast that every local loves a lot.
Usually, here in Bulgaria our grandmothers cook them for us. And we adore them. You can put different things on top of it – like white feta cheese, jam or honey. And in combination with coffee this is the best duo. Mekitsa and coffee is on 28 Graf Ignatiev street from 9 am to 7 pm.
3. Tables
55B Vitosha boulevard | 09:00 – 22:00 | Facebook | Instagram
One of the newest brunch deals in town. Modern, cozy, different – this is Tables. With an interesting design and a predisposing aristocracy. A hybrid between a brunch spot and a restaurant in Sofia, in the busy pedestrian Vitosha Street.
You can settle down on the first floor and huddle in comfortable pillows, as well as climb onto the covered terrace on the second floor. To enjoy the menu, which offers a rich assortment of salads, hummus toast, Eggs Benedict and a number of tempting desserts, you can find Tables at 55B, Vitosha Boulevard, working time – 9am – 10 pm.
4. Café 1920
60 Kn. Maria Luiza boulevard | 7:30 – 22:00 | Facebook | Instagram
Café 1920 is spacious and light, with a slight inclination for industrial design, but cozy enough due to the presence of natural wood and bare original bricks for a hundred years. The menu is designed to convince you that the traditional Bulgarian cuisine we have known since childhood can have a modern read and the food to be delicious.
The menu starts with copious breakfast suggestions, but you can feel the fresh reading. The pancakes, for example, are alcoholic ice cream flavoured with frostbite. You can even try traditional Bulgarian dishes like Kachamak or Shakshuka. The address is 60, bul. Kn. Maria Luiza and the working hours are 7:30 am – 10 pm.
5. Wonderland Desserts and Cocktails
26 Petur Parchevich street | 11:00 – 22:00 | Facebook | Instagram
The beautiful and cozy Wonderland desserts and cocktails is’s magical place where you can pamper your senses and enjoy the sweet taste of life. More a pastry than a brunch spot but still good for brunch.
Delicious sweet and savoury desserts are available, such as eclairs with cheese mousse, goat cheese crackers, prosciutto and sweet figs and salmon and guacamole tartlets. You can try cheesecake cream with kiwi and heart of raspberry jam, praline with corn on cream with maple syrup and brownies with cream of Baylis. Wonderland is also in the city centre at 26, Petur Parchevich street, working from 11 am until 10 pm.
These are the 5 best brunch places in Sofia where you can eat very delicious food and to enjoy a pleasant atmosphere. Hopefully after them you will remember Sofia with its amazing taste and cozy brunch places – see them all on the map below.
