I visited Istanbul a few years ago and I was fascinated by the vibrance of this enormous city. And not only Istanbul is big. The whole country is fascinating and offers a lot to see.
Its vibrant culture, stunning views and historical background attract tourists from all over the world. That’s why I decided to put a list of the best places to visit in Turkey in 2018.
You will find all the wonderful must-sees as well as some not so obvious choices. Moreover, a trip to Turkey doesn’t have to be expensive to be rewarding. There are plenty of ways to enjoy the country on a budget. So enjoy!
1. Istanbul

A sunset over Istanbul
You cannot go to Turkey without seeing the beautiful city of Istanbul which lays on the Bosphorus Strait. There, it’s recommended to take a cruise and enjoy the breathtaking views that the city offers.
A walk through the Grand Bazaar is another must during your visit in Istanbul. Don’t miss the chance to taste the local Turkish cuisine (and my personal favourite kunefe) and to feel the exotic atmosphere and culture of this city.
You can find the most impressive historic sites of Istanbul in the Old City. Some of the most important are the church Hagia Sophia, which is also a museum, Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace.
2. Ephesus

The Library of Celsus in Ephesus
Here is another suggestion, not so known as Istanbul, but not less beautiful. It’s an ancient site called Ephesus and definitely is one of the best places to visit in Turkey next year.
Ephesus is located in Aegean Turkey and it’s known like the Europe’s most complete, still-standing Roman city in the Medirerranean region. Its attractions include the magnificent Celsus Library, the Temple of Hadrian and the Great Theater, once capable of seating 25 000 spectators.
3. Ayder yaylasi

A picturesque mountain scenery in Turkey
Beautiful mountain village surrounded by lush green scenery and spectacular views… Ayder is a resort in Kackar Mountains in Eastern Turkey that everyone should see. It is a good place for short or long hikes and there are various hot springs you can enjoy afterwards.
4. Mount Nemrut

Mount Nemrut is one of the most spectacular places in Turkey. The giant heads has been trown away all over the places, as they used to be part of an ancient tomb.
Another fascinating place in Turkey to put on your bucket list is Nemrut Mountain. It is located in the Southeast part of the country.
Nemrut is notable for the gigantic heads of statues that were erected here thousands of years ago. Mount Nemrut is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
5. Cappadocia

Take a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia in 2018
Of course, another well known spot in Turkey to include in our list for 2018 is Cappadocia. I’m pretty sure that all of us have seen some of the amazing photos taken in this beautiful place with the hot air balloons. Cappadocia is every photographer’s dream with its landscape and the surreal rock valley.
If you are not into hiking, this is the top destination to take a hot air balloon and enjoy the magical scenario from the top. The balloons are the symbol of the region.
6. Amasya
If you are looking for beautiful mountains villages surrounded by water and some oriental folklore, the small city of Amasya is the right place for you!
This small city is definitely a hidden jewel in the crown of Turkey, it seems like it comes from a fairytale. Here is the place to mention that one of the most famous Turkish tales was set exactly here. And indeed, Amasya has a fairytale atmosphere.
7. Pamukkale

Pamukkale – The Cotton Castles of Turkey
Don’t miss the natural wonder of Pamukkale, which means “Cotton Castles’’ in Turkish. The UNESCO World Heritage site of Pamukkale was famous as a SPA center during Roman times.
8. Safranbolu

Traditional houses in Safranbolu
The picturesque town of Safranbolu is located in the Black Sea region of Turkey. The Old Town is what you really have to visit in 2018. It preserves many historic buildings and scenic paved streets that will make for great photos and memories.

10. Mardin
The city of Mardin was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is situated on a strategic hill overlooking the Mesopotamian plains and many historic buildings. At the top of the hill stands the impressive citadel. I am definitely curious to see this place… Are you?
11. Oludeniz

Oludeniz is mostly famous for its turquoise & aquamarine waters.
Famous for its turquoise & aquamarine waters, Oludeniz is a great choice for a trip in Turkey this year. The beach resort can be found in Southwestern Turkey. Its name literally means “dead sea” because of the calm waters even during storms.
