If you are looking for a little adventure in Bulgaria’s capital, head to The Cube escape room in Sofia. It’s an interesting challenge in the city center where you have to show team spirit, sharp and analytical mind and make quick decisions in order to succeed.
If you haven’t heard of escape rooms before, the idea is that after you enter the room with your team, the door is locked behind you and you have only 60 minutes to escape. Although The Cube was only the second escape room in Sofia we visited, I can say that it raised the bar pretty high.
In the room…
Because of its central location, we found The Cube pretty fast. It’s right next to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral – one of the symbols of Sofia. We had no idea what to expect but could not wait to get started. The lovely hosts gave us quick instructions and soon enough the door shut behind us and IT WAS ON!
Your goal in The Cube is to find all the hidden clues, solve the riddles and, at the end, to defuse a nuclear bomb, set by the Nazi Germany during the World War 2 who wanted to end the human kind in case of losing the war.
Our team of four quickly started to find the first clues and puzzles. But it was not that easy. Many of the clues required more extensive and elaborative thinking. I really liked that there were many deep and meaningful riddles along with the easy ones. Of course, there were also some clever hints and gentle nudges in the right direction by the hosts during our escape attempt.
After almost 55 intense, adrenaline-rushing minutes we finally found the bomb. Unfortunately we didn’t make it on time. We were very close to detonate the bomb but the rush was so high and we made a mistake in the final minute.
Despite the unfortunate ending, The Cube was the exact kind of experience we were looking for in an escape room.
What we think
Puzzles: ★★★★★
If you like lots of riddles and puzzles, The Cube will not leave you dissatisfied. Some of the puzzles were really advanced and very thoughtful. Many were also focused on the intellectual experience. It really challenges the best Sherlock Holmes in you. The riddles were so many and various that you really have to think fast in order to get to the end. And that was the best part.
Atmoshpere: ★★★★☆
The hosts put a lot of effort to resemble the World War II atmosphere – the gas masks and the war helmets were only the beginning. However there were very modern and computerized riddles as well. But there are no words in the world to describe the adrenaline in the final seconds when we tried to defuse the bomb! It was intense!
Customer service: ★★★★★
The booking process went perfect. The hosts welcomed us half an hour earlier as we arrived sooner than we expected. They were very friendly and thoroughly explained us what we had to do without giving away too much. After we finished, they were kind enough to give us suggestions for other great rooms in Sofia from the same ‘rank’.
The Cube escape room in Sofia is definitely worth checking out, whether you’re in the city for a weekend or a week, it’s the perfect adventure for a night out with your travel buddies. We recommend it 100%!
